The Byzantine Text, Read Aloud:  Acts 2:1-3

As far as a text goes that tries to get at the original wording of the New Testament authors, our best bet is the Greek text used (with very little variation between them) by:

The Greek text that underlies the King James Version, while being the best that was available to translators working 500 years ago, is primarily of historical interest to us.  It is based on late, medieval manuscripts...what are called "Byzantine" manuscripts

Notwithstanding, Maurice A. Robinson helped to prepare an edition of the Greek NT based on these Byzantine manuscripts as an aid to scholars.  He has also prepared recordings of him reading the entire NT out loud from this edition.

You may enjoy listening along to this fluent reader of NT Greek.  To aid in following along, here are the verses from his Byzantine edition.  I find his text, with no breathing marks or accents, more difficult to read than the SBLGNT.  However, there are some small in wording.  So it is easier to follow Robinson from the Byz. text below.

1 και εν τω συμπληρουσθαι την ημεραν της πεντηκοστης ησαν απαντες ομοθυμαδον επι το αυτο

2 και εγενετο αφνω εκ του ουρανου ηχος ωσπερ φερομενης πνοης βιαιας και επληρωσεν ολον τον οικον ου ησαν καθημενοι

3 και ωφθησαν αυτοις διαμεριζομεναι γλωσσαι ωσει πυρος εκαθισεν τε εφ ενα εκαστον αυτων

1 Καὶ ἐν τῷ συμπληροῦσθαι τὴν ἡμέραν τῆς πεντηκοστῆς ἦσαν πάντες ὁμοῦ ἐπὶ τὸ αὐτό,

2 καὶ ἐγένετο ἄφνω ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἦχος ὥσπερ φερομένης πνοῆς βιαίας καὶ ἐπλήρωσεν ὅλον τὸν οἶκον οὗ ἦσαν καθήμενοι,

3 καὶ ὤφθησαν αὐτοῖς διαμεριζόμεναι γλῶσσαι ὡσεὶ πυρός, καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐφ’ ἕνα ἕκαστον αὐτῶν,

 

Using an unaccented text as he is, he will sometimes emphasize different syllables than I do (or at least, as I try to do), reading from an accented text.
